Spark plug — Replace annually or every 100 operating hours. Cross-reference equivalents from other brands usually fit.
Spark plug gap — Set with a feeler gauge before installing. A wrong gap causes hard starting and rough running.
Engine oil — Grade depends on operating temperature, not on the machine. Several grades listed below are all correct — pick by season.
Air filter — Check every 25 hours, more often in dusty conditions. A clogged filter shows up as black smoke and power loss.
